BI4 sp4 upgrade - Information Steward issue

Hi All,

Just upgraded my BI environment to BI4 SP4 and my Information Steward installation (which was version BI4 sp1) failed to start.

The icon in the BI Launchpad is just a red cross and hovering over just says '???.dummy.action.MM_Explorer_Invoke.display.name???

If you try via Windows Start menu you get an HTTP 404 Missing Web Page Error. I tried upgrading Information Steward to latest version BI4 sp2 patch 4 to rectify, but still the same.I have also tried 'repairing' the installation.

 

Has anybody else had issues and resolved them?

View Metapedia terms

Hello IS gurus.

 

Im having one question regarding Information Steward. I know that this tool is relatively new, but some part of it seems to be very useful: Metadata and Metapedia. Metadata management is running fine and I can see all I need as far as my interests goes, but I ve hit the stumbling block with metapedia.

 

So, what I ve done so far: I took one universe and bunch of reports, created Metapedia terms and assigned these to groups, approved all (basically I followed the manuals and also few slides that i managed to get here in SCN), but when I m trying to see them from BI launchpad by pressing View Metapedia terms - then nothing happens I see blank screen where only "Term" is visible, no previosly defined terms that I ve assigned to these reports and universe objects.

 

What I missing here, do I need to assign these terms to reports manually (which I ve done already in IS management tool) ?

 

Environment: BI with Sp05, BODI 4.1, IS 4.1

BI and DWH is fully indexed and both visible in metadata management part of IS (impact analysis and Lineage works fine)

Error clicking on Scorecard Tab (Application error UIM10030)

Hi,
 
We Installed Information Steward 4.1 SP02 on windows platform, where SAP Business Objects Enterprise 4.0 SP 01 Patch 1 installed.When we opened Information steward from BI launch pad we faced the application error.


Now when I click on the Scorecard tab it begins to load (I see a Loading Key Data Domains pop-up) and then an Application Error occurs - UIM-10030 - Contact your System Administrator.
 
Please see the attached. Any one faced this error before??

Information Steward 4.2 RFC connected to SAP ECC - Scorecard task stuck on Pending - Please Help!

Hi, could someone please help.

 

I set up IS 4.2 SP1 to connect to SAP ECC6 for scoring data, using an RFC.  It connected well, but when I try to run a score task, the task remains on PENDING.

 

Please help.

Error while running task on ECC table

Hello,

 

When ever i run a (profile/rule) task on any table from ECC in Information Steward, it's failing and is generating an error log as shown below. But, i am able to view data when i click on "View data" icon after selecting the imported table.

 

error: Data flow <DF_Rule_NP_142_1> received a bad system message. Message text from the child process is <￯﾿ﾘ￯ﾾﾮC￯﾿ﾷR&#127;==========================================================

Collect the following and send to Customer Support:

1. Log files(error_*, monitor_*, trace_*) associated with this failed job.

2. Exported ATL file of this failed job.

3. DDL statements of tables referenced in this failed job.

4. Data to populate the tables referenced in the failed job. If not possible, get the last few rows (or sample of them) when the job failed.

5. Core dump, if any, generated from this failed job.

Did anyone face the similar issue? if yes, could you help me by providing some inputs to resolve this.

Issues/Errors with BW/ECC Sources

Hello,

 

I am on client site and we are having a difficult time resolving, or even isolating the issues we are facing with BW/ECC sources in Information Steward.IS is version 4.1 SP2.

 

The connections have been successfully established and validated to both the BW and ECC source system, but the client is experiencing issues when trying to view/import objects from these sources.

 

Can someone please advise on the following issues? The client needs this resolved ASAP.

 

Issue 1 - (ECC Source) An error occurs when trying to access extractors (Please see attached screenshot!)

Issue 2 - (BW Source) Extractors are not visible when fully expanding their parent folders to lowest level. 'Tables' folder does not appear as it should (Please see attached screenshot!)

 

The Functions (files) are the correct version and appear to be installed properly.

 

If anyone can shed any light on either of these issues, please advise. You would be doing this project and myself a great service.

Connection between SAP Information Steward & SAP HANA

Hi, I am looking for a solution to connect SAP Information Steward & SAP HANA. I tried this by giving the ODBC connection detials of HANA in the Data Source Name parameter while creating the connection in CMC under manage connections option of Information Steward, but the system has repeatedly given me an error saying that the ODBC connection is invalid. Please advice...

Empty folders for Sybase power Designer Metadata in Metadata Management

Hi ,

 

 

I Have created Integrator source connection for  Sybase Power Designer in CMC. I have seen three folders in the Information steward metadata management .  Those are Change Lists,Closed Changed Lists, Library

 

 

If I  click on any folder  inside there is no information .

 

But I  have already check in the models to the Sybase Power Designer repository .

couln't able to add information steward repository to job server

Hi ,

 

I Installed the Information Steward in my system .  I couldn't able to add Information Steward repository to job server .  It is showing it is not valid repository.   I have checked the database  and  repository tables are created in the specified database. Please find the attached error screenshot for error .

 

In the CMC applications- Information Steward --- View Data Services Job Server showing http error as attached word document.

 

Please help me how to resolve this issue.

Lookups against SAP BW

I am trying to create a rule that does a lookup against an SAP BW DSO and/or OHD.  Although the rule validates successfully, I am getting the following failure message when trying to test it with just one value.

Dataservices execution failed for (14.0) 06-29-12 09:45:13 (E) (5216:9248) RES-020144: |SESSION JOB_TEST_RULE_83|DATAFLOW DF_TEST_RULE_83|STATEMENT

When I execute the task it fails and the most significant message in the log file is:-

SAP table </BI0/ASD_O0300> in datastore <ICCDS_115> cannot be used in a lookup

 

Any ideas, how do I do a lookup (or similar) against SAP BW objects?  Essentially I am trying to determine if a primary key for the VBAK table in ECC is in SAP BW DSO 0SD_O03.

Unexpected Element : CDATA error ?

Hello,

 

We are on Information Steward 4.1 and for one of the tables we are getting "unexpected Element: CDATA Error... Did anybody encounter such errors ?

 

Everything was working fine, error started from yesterday and no change was done to the system.. Checked the logs and couldn't find any cause for these errors.

Configuring a Metadata Source using Metadata Bridge

Hi,

We are running a Migration to SAP ERP project and are utilizing the following software:

 

BI Platform 4.0 SP6

BI Client Tools 4.0 SP6

BO Data Services 4.1 SP1

BO Information Steward 4.1 SP1 patch 2

SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions to SAP ERP 2.4

Our application servers are VM Windows 2008 R2 64-bit

Our CMS/Audit Datbase is Oracle 11g

Our Data sources will be various (Access, Excel, ManMan, Baan, etc.)

 

 

In Phase 1 of our ERP project we used Data Services to ETL many different data sources and load them into SAP ECC. We went live in April, The live data is in ECC and a daily snapshot has been automated into SAP BW each night, so that all the reporting can be done against a snapshot rather than against the live transactional data. There is a variety of reporting with BusinessObjects suite of reporting tools.

 

In Phase 2 of the project we are making use of the Meta Data Manager module of SAP BusinessObjects Information Steward. One of the data architects has a requirement to make a connection from our phase 2 environment to the Phase 1 BW environment and define that as an integrator source in which to report on Data lineage. Beyond creating a System Account and password, and opening any ports between the servers, I have a requirement to use a Metadata Bridge. I'm getting an error message saying the metadata Bridge has not been installed. BASIS team indicates that they installed it. Question:

 

1) Is there a way to determine if the Metadata Bridge (MIMB) Metadata Integrator is installed?

 

2) When I attempt to set up a Metadata Bridge connection in the CMC, (cmc>Information steward.manage>new>integrator source> metadata type: metadata integration model bridge, I'm presenting with a long list of about 50 different types of Bridges. What bridge would I select for 'SAP BW'? Is there any documentation to provide an overview of this process? (page 153/section7.27 of the BOBS IS 4.1 SP 1 Admin Guide is very brief about this component.) Any help would be appreciated.

Custom Cleansing Package

Hi Everyone,

 

I am trying to build a Custom Cleansing Package, here is a sample of what my data looks like:

Material Description             Material Class

Ballast 120VAC 60HZ             Ballast

Flourescent Ballast, 2 lamp     Ballast

Ballast Flourescent Lamp        Ballast

Drive Band - 1.3124                 Band

Band Drive                              Band

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to create a Cleansing package that will read the Material Description and output the Material Class?

View Lineage in Web Intelligence Document

Hi

 

I was wondering what is the best way of viewing data lineage in a Web Intelligence doc.  In previous versions of BusObj you could (manually or otherwise) add source information in the Universe in the object definition and this can then be displayed when viewing a web doc.

 

However this doesn't seem to be the case anymore with SIS and BO4.  Is the expected workflow for a report user would be to logon to SIS and then locate the lineage information there?

How to move Rules to various environments

Hi there.

I have a situation where I have defined some profile rules. The challenge is now I need to take my existing rules and use them in another environment without having to re-create my rules within SAP Information Steward. In SAP Data Services, we would normally create an .ATL file and just import your jobs into the new environment... Is there a similar method/way in SAP Information Steward??

 

If not, what is the method? Would it be to use Life-Cycle Management (now called Promotion Management) and use the LCMBIAR file?

 

Your help will be appreciated.

Data Insight Approver/Security Access issues in 4.2

After giving a user Data Insight Analyst level access, if that user opens a rule they did not author, they see a "view only" version of the rule, (see below), with only "Validate", "Test", and "Close" options.

However, in the documentation, the high-level definition of the Data Insight Analyst group suggests that they should be able to edit rules, with no mention that they must "own" them.

I also verified that the Data Insight Analyst group has the "Manage Rule" right in the CMC, which seems like it should allow a DIA member to edit any rule.

When I test the same situation (rule created by another user), it can be edited under version 4.1.  I could not find anywhere in the 4.2 release notes that security changed.  Is this intended functionality, that users can only edit rules they create?  When I give the "Admin rule" right to the Data Insight Analyst group, I am able to edit rules from any other user, but it doesn't seem like a user should have to be a Data Insight Administrator to edit an unapproved rule authored by another user.

 

Additionally, when I import a rule (from a project in version 4.2 to a project in version 4.2) it comes in without an approver listed and an error (see below), even though it was fully validated and had an approver listed in the original project.

Error while running profiling in Information Steward

I followed the steps in the scn (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/10538fce-4b42-2e10-0fb1-a2146dc20943&overridelayout=true) to setup profile but encountered the following error while trying to execute it:

 

"A system error occurred. Contact the administrator if the error persists (UIM-10142). "

 

We tried checking on the "Download Log File" button but it generates message saying "Log file is not available".

 

We tried checking in directory "E:\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\logging" but couldn't find any related error.

 

Could you please help to provide recommendations and approach to resolve this problem?
